A.A.S. IN NURSING, BRIDGE PROGRAM OPTION
Concorde - Insurance Coding and Billing SpecialistThis program leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree and prepares students to take the National Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX.RN). Graduates, who pass the NCLEX.RN, can enter the healthcare workforce as confident, competent professional nurses. The RN is highly skilled and educated. The RN is prepared to function in the roles of provider of care, manager of care, and contributing member of a healthcare team. While at the bedside, the RN is accountable for decisions that impact the healthcare outcomes for the patient. The scope of the RN's practice is defined in the State of Colorado's Nurse Practice Act.

Applicants who meet all admission criteria and possess a current, unencumbered license to practice in the State of Colorado as LPN's will be given advanced standing and receive credit for basic nursing courses on review of official transcripts.

Applicants enrolling in the Bridge Program Option, begin their nursing courses with a Life Span transitions course. This course is designed to transition the student from the role of a practical nurse to the role of a registered nurse. The content is based on successful completion and licensure of the LPN and prior studies and work experience. Ethical, legal and theoretical principles, boundaries, issues and challenges facing the professional registered nurse are covered. The LPN is introduced to critical-thinking, therapeutic communication and research processes.

Upon successful completion of the Life Span Transitions Course, the Transition/Bridge students then advance through nursing courses that include more complex concepts in patient care and speciality nursing areas such as mental health, maternal-child nursing, and care of pediatric patients.
